In 1936, Doroteo Fermin Delgado initiated a partnership with an industry cornerstone, La Aurora. 86 years later, the legacy is stronger than ever, with the same devotion for our land, the people that make it possible and the quality cigars derived from our rich soil.

Doroteo had many descendants, one of which was his grandson, Juan Lugo, who had fond memories of walking alongside his larger than life grandfather — as he swung his machete in the fields to clear paths for his grandson. After developing a taste and passion for cigars, Juan would smoke tobacco straight from the Yaque valley and think of his grandfather, his story, his legacy and how proud he was of Doroteo’s accomplishments. Years after Doroteo passed away, Juan’s mother notified him that she found tobacco plants on the land that she inherited, plants that his grandfather had planted ages ago and continued to sprout year after year.
At this moment, Juan was compelled to continue Doroteo’s legacy, in his honor. Afterall, he admired his grandfather and shared his passion for cigars and the love for his country.
Brandon Dallmann is a serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience – scaling grassroot startups in various industries. For the last 15 years, he’s been in the pursuit of starting his own cigar company. However, due to the barriers to entry in this traditional, tight knit industry, Brandon has been on the sidelines, patiently waiting for his moment to strike. Sure enough, his opportunity presented itself in the most serendipitous fashion. Brandon was smoking a fine cigar with some buddies on a Caribbean beach and as they shared that moment, he realized one of them had been withholding a similar desire to reignite his cigar heritage – dating back three generations!
It was at this moment that Brandon realized his dream of starting a tobacco empire would become a reality and only a matter of time before he stood in a field of his very own, Don Doroteo tobacco.

Don Doroteo Cigars may have just been established but in actuality those roots date back beyond the 20th century. It was 1936 when Doroteo Fermin Delgado decided to follow in his late fathers footsteps, by growing tobacco in the heart of Santiago, Dominican Republic. At the tender age of 16, he began his legacy – for his descendants, his community, and ultimately for the world. He never imagined the impact he would have on this industry, for years to come.
Don Doroteo is a brand with both purpose and passion; its deep seeded heritage holds enough weight to sell aficionados beautifully pre rolled cigars, but it would feel inauthentic to do so. Therefore, it’s imperative for us to stay true to Doroteo’s essence by cultivating and growing on our own land, in the Dominican Republic. This is much bigger than simply mass producing cigars, we aim to create change from within. By developing our own land, we are able to own the entire process throughout our plant’s life cycle. We methodically carry out each step, ensuring that the final product is of the finest quality. Consequently, Don Doroteo will only release a limited quantity each season to preserve its exquisite quality.
While we honor the legacy passed on to us and are tremendously proud of our deep roots, it is important for us to take the necessary steps in the way we operate. Historically, traditional industries have been plagued with inhumane practices, of which we aim to eradicate. Don Dorteo is a conscious organization, built on the shoulders of those working the fields day in and day out, just as our great grandfathers did for this industry. As such, we will nurture and scale our team, as we do the enterprise.
